On April 22, ESPN published a story stating, "Penn State officials, in an attempt to get the family of Joe Paterno to sign away its right to sue the school, offered to rename Beaver Stadium after the late coach, The Patriot-News has reported, citing a source close to the family." In fact, neither the Penn State Board of Trustees, nor its attorney, ever discussed possible re-naming of Beaver Stadium in any connection with discussions regarding making payments under Coach Paterno's contract, as amended in August 2011.

On April 5, 2012, the Centre Daily Times published an article that stated that Coach Joe Paterno was denied the right to issue his own press release on Nov. 8, 2011. The statement was provided Wednesday by Dan McGinn, the spokesman for the Paterno family. McGinn said it wasn't possible to release it during the time of the events in question. Here are the facts.
